  • Who do you think is the most influential person in history? Why?

I am sure that there are more important and influential people in history; however, I am a history major and I have always been fond of Queen Elizabeth I. I am currently majoring in European history with a specialized interest in Tudor England so I am bias towards her as a queen and as a person.

She didn't have the best childhood growing up like other young royals in rivaling kingdoms during that time period. Elizabeth barely knew her mother due to her beheading when Elizabeth was a child. However, throughout her entire life she had to carry the "burdon" her mother's legacy left behind after she departed. Her father wasn't an emotionally caring father towards her (or her half-sister Princess Mary).

Despite earlier troubles, she managed to come into her own as a young adult ascending the throne. During her reign, she "married" the kingdom of England choosing her people and their welfare over her own love and happiness. Elizabeth always tried to do what was in her people's best interest. She was not only a caring queen but also a mother to the people of England.

So while she may not be the most influential person in history, she is important in the history of England and Europe.
